In anticipation of the birth of our first daughter, we attended our birth classes and toured the hospital. We left with hospital checklists, baby checklists, labor notes and a lot of paperwork. My husband, wanting to be completely prepared, started going from store to store to make sure we had EVERY item on each list. We packed our bags and felt we were ready.
After gathering everything together he thought it would be a great idea to save new parents all this running around and provide them with a pre-packed bag. So we excitedly researched hospital checklists and narrowed down the items that the majority of hospitals ask that you pack.
Then we had our first birth experience. It wasn't at all what we had planned or prepared for. We were fortunate that the doctors and nurses took great care of us but we were left wondering what other moms would do if they weren't as lucky as us. There are a lot of things that happen before, during and after having a baby that the classes just don't prepare you for. We also had some fantastic nurses who provided us with essential items that made the few days after birth much more bearable.
So we decided to add those items to LaborKit™.
In 2006 we had our second daughter, in a different country which was a much different experience. Again we packed our bags for a planned c-section and felt prepared. This hospital provided much less than the previous one. We realized that some basic and very practical items can make a huge difference to recovery but unfortunately more and more hospitals are not providing them.
So we added those items to LaborKit™.
After much research and discussion with nurses, lactation consultants and moms, we have come up with 18 must-have items based on usefulness, quality and convenience. We are happy to provide a well-organized, practical kit to help any mom during labor and delivery. It would also make a great gift for mom-to-be.
